About Food Allergies in the Real World

Thank you for visiting Food Allergies in the Real World. This website is maintained by The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN).

Recent studies show that teens are the highest risk group for fatal, food-induced anaphylactic reactions. The goal of our teen website, Food Allergies in the Real World, is to provide accurate and clear information about food allergies for teens and young adults.

FAAN is dedicated to bringing about a clearer understanding of the issues surrounding food allergies. Our mission is to increase public awareness about food allergies and anaphylaxis (a severe, life-threatening reaction), to provide education, and to advance research on behalf of all of those affected by food allergy. Our teen website is an extension of that mission. We strive to provide the best and most accurate information online.

FAAN has separate websites for adults, teens, and children, each with their own age-appropriate content, tone, and design.

Real Teens in the Real World

The content and design of our website are developed with help from real teens with food allergies, members of FAAN’s Teen Advisory Group. These young adults are FAAN’s eyes and ears for teens, telling us about their experiences managing their food allergies and letting us know what information they would like to see on the site.
