Food Allergies in the Real World

Meet Alyssa

Age: 18
Allergic to: milk
Favorite TV shows: Arrested Development and Project Runway
Loves: volunteering

What she would like non-allergic people to know about food allergies:
“Food-allergic people must take extreme precautions to avoid the foods that they are allergic to, and people without allergies need to be supportive of this. They must understand that a food allergy includes many ingredients, often less obvious ones. People without allergies should be knowledgeable on the signs of a reaction, know the different medications, and know how to help. If more non-allergic people understood food allergies, they would be more likely to help when an allergic person has a reaction.”
