About Food Allergies in the Real World

Thank you for visiting Food Allergies in the Real World. This site used to be maintained by the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN). FAAN stopped maintaining this site some time ago, and as a result the content became unavailable.  Since we have personally benefitted by reading the content of this website, we thought we would bring to life and maintain this site, paying ourselves for all of its expenses. We hope that others will read the tips, personal stories, and food allergy information and benefit from it as we did. FAAN is not responsible for the content of this site in its current form.

Recent studies show that teens are the highest risk group for fatal, food-induced anaphylactic reactions. The goal of our teen website, Food Allergies in the Real World, is to provide accurate and clear information about food allergies for teens and young adults.

We are dedicated to bringing about a clearer understanding of the issues surrounding food allergies. Our mission is to increase public awareness about food allergies and anaphylaxis (a severe, life-threatening reaction), to provide education, and to advance research on behalf of all of those affected by food allergy. Our teen website is an extension of that mission. We strive to provide the best and most accurate information online.

There are separate websites for adults, teens, and children, each with their own age-appropriate content, tone, and design.

Real Teens in the Real World

The content and design of our website are developed with help from real teens with food allergies, members of a Teen Advisory Group. These young adults are the eyes and ears for teens, telling us about their experiences managing their food allergies and letting us know what information they would like to see on the site.

The material on this website was written to provide a guideline for care. The authors disclaim any responsibility for any adverse effects resulting from the information presented on this website. The information on this website is not designed to take the place of a doctor's instructions. Patients are urged to contact a doctor for specific information regarding guidelines for care. The inclusion of brand name medications or medical devices does not imply endorsement by us.
